Stephanie Henson picking up trash along Covell Road	A few times every year ERC members and their friends and family are invited to take out the trash on Covell Road in Edmond. The Edmond Running Club has adopted this one mile stretch of asphault by offering to perform maintenance by volunteering to collect and dispose of trash and gawdy debris that otherwise would sully this beautiful part of Edmond. The section of Covell that is maintained by the club stretches between Kelly and Santa Fe. This activity, held two or three times each year, celebrates the fusion of civic duty with fun and frivolity. The ERC website is regularly updated with the date, time and other details of the next trash pickup so be sure to check back often.

Oklahoma and its running community have lost a great runner and friend over the Holiday weekend. Jack Rector ran his final race and won! Jack trained many local runners for the annual Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, the Tulsa Route 66 and countless other events. He will be missed by all he touched; and remembered by so many for his dedication to the running community. I’ve only known Jack for a short period of time but I never saw him without a smile and a word of encouragement. While Jack’s race is over, please keep his wonderful wife Sherri and their family in your prayers. Dear God in Heaven, we know that Jack is with you and your son and that he is peaceful now. Bless Jack’s family with the strength they need at this time and let them know their friends are near. We have been so fortunate to have Jack amongst the running community here in Oklahoma and know that he touched so many; he was a dedicated athlete that shall be fondly remembered. We know our own time here is short, but has been made less difficult by Jack’s teaching and training. Accept this angel of the marathon unto your Heaven where he may run tirelessly now knowing his memory and efforts here will not soon fade. Amen.
